Just because there was a “deal” doesn’t mean dan wasn’t literally pressured from his environment and forced upon MULTIPLE times. Yes, Jaekyung def regretted his actions, but it feels like he got off way too lightly. It’s like the author got tired of having the abvsive relationship so they just switched up jaekhyungs personality completely to the typical lovey dovey husband material — but, he doesn’t fit that role at all. nor after he’s been abvsing, graping and being generally TERRIBLE to kim dan all this time, even when he knew how sad and how bad kim has been treated during his whole life. Kim dan is an angel and jakhyung is a devil who deserves nothing but death.
“Imagine spending 3–4 years creating a story, only for someone to reduce it to ‘the author got tired.’ or ‘story is bad ‘😭 You can dislike Jaekyung and the ending, but that’s an opinion, not a fact. But what I don’t understand is why so many people refuse to acknowledge his development in Season 2.
Character development is supposed to happen. If a character starts off as a good person and stays the same, there isn’t much growth. The whole point of a redemption arc is to show someone changing over time
People accept development from other red-flag characters. I’ve seen fans forgive and praise plenty of characters who have done equally bad or even worse things. Yet when it comes to Jaekyung, some people act like he’s not allowed to change at all.
Nobody is asking you to forget what he did. Recognizing character growth doesn’t mean excusing past actions. It just means acknowledging that the character is trying to become better than they were before.
If people can love a character for being complex, they should also be able to recognize when that complexity includes growth.
You don’t have to like Jaekyung, and that’s completely fine. But saying he hasn’t changed at all in Season 2 feels unfair when the story clearly shows his development. Whether you forgive him or not is your choice, but pretending there’s been no growth doesn’t make much sense.
( I wasn’t even planning to give a whole lecture 😭. I’m just annoyed that some people keep digging up Jaekyung’s past every single time.
In real life, people always say, “Learn from your mistakes, move on, and become a better person.” But when it comes to Jaekyung, suddenly his growth doesn’t count and people only want to judge him by what he did before)😭😭😭
Just to give the other side of the coin, I love problematic season 1 Jaekyung. Different people have different tastes, and expecting fiction to follow reality’s moral guidelines can often hamper dramatic storytelling and catharsis. He’s not real. No actual physiotherapists were harmed in the making of this comic.
